The Tech Guy

The Tech Guy – “Behind the Screens: My Tech Story

I’ve been in IT for more than 25 years, and yet—every day still feels like a new one. My journey didn’t start in tech at all; I actually began with a marketing diploma before making a big career switch into IT. It was a leap that changed everything, and one I’ve never regretted. Interestingly, that marketing background later became a significant advantage in my pre-sales career—helping me bridge the gap between technology and business. From my early days in helpdesk and system admin to leading cybersecurity pre-sales, I’m incredibly grateful for every step and opportunity that brought me here.

Cyber Killchain – What’s in it?

Cybersecurity is massive—it’s made up of so many moving parts: endpoints, networks, gateways, cloud, analytics, identity, AI, and everything in between. Early in my career, I made a conscious choice to explore each of these domains instead of sticking to just one. It wasn’t always easy—it meant constant learning, unlearning, and connecting dots across technologies that often spoke different “languages.” But in hindsight, that’s what gave me a holistic view of how security truly works.

What I’ve learned is that security isn’t about a single product, tool, or platform—it’s about how they all come together. A great endpoint solution means little without network visibility; a strong gateway is only as effective as the threat intelligence behind it. Each layer plays its part, but it’s the connections between them that form real defense.

Spending time across different domains helped me understand not just how attacks happen, but why they succeed—how gaps between systems become blind spots for defenders. It’s also shown me the power of integration: when analytics, automation, and human insight align, security transforms from being reactive to truly intelligent.

To me, cybersecurity is like an ecosystem in nature—constantly evolving, interconnected, and full of hidden relationships. That’s what makes it endlessly fascinating. Every new project, every emerging threat, and every piece of technology adds another layer to the puzzle—and that’s what keeps me passionate about this field even after two decades.

Milestones and Lessons

Along the way, I’ve had the chance to work with amazing teams and lead some truly meaningful initiatives. Before my current role, I helped expand digital risk protection solutions across APAC—reaching markets like Australia and Japan—and was honored with a Global MVP Award for driving impact beyond the region. Earlier in my journey, while leading the South Asia Sales Engineering team at a data analytics firm, I received the APAC Sales Engineering Manager of the Year Award—a proud milestone in my leadership path.
Over time, I’ve stayed committed to learning and staying relevant. I’ve earned my CISSP (since 2012), CISM (2024), and CIPP/A (2025), along with several certifications in data protection, threat intelligence, and cloud security—each one a reminder that growth never stops in this field.

What Keeps Me Going

What I love most about this career isn’t just the tech—it’s the people. I’ve been lucky to meet, mentor, and collaborate with so many brilliant minds across the region. Speaking at cybersecurity events, joining panel discussions, or even appearing on national TV and radio have all been incredible experiences to share ideas and inspire others. At the end of the day, it’s those conversations—the human side of tech—that keep me passionate about what I do.
